Far back in the mists of time, when computers couldn't yet "sample" a song without bursting into flame, there was the SID chip for Commodore 64. Feel free to Wiki SID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technology_SID), but the folksy place to learn about it is at the High Voltage SID Collection (http://www.hvsc.c64.org/FAQ/index.html).

Here are a collection of Queen tunes, composed (rather than sampled/remixed) by some amateurs as well as some professionals. I'll post more details for each song later, but for now let me say this: NO, FLASH GORDON WAS NOT COMPOSED BY MR. SCIENTOLOGY, it is a completely different "Mr. Hubbard" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Hubbard).
